What we look for before writing an angel check
October 14, 2026
The five things we weigh on every early-stage deal, and how to prepare for each before you pitch.

We meet founders building things worth backing all the time. The ones who move fastest through our process have usually prepared for the same five questions. Here's what we look for, and how to get ready.
1. A unique value proposition
Your offering should provide the kind of value that's difficult to find elsewhere. Be ready to explain in one sentence what customers get from you that they can't get from the alternatives, and why that gap exists.
2. Product-market fit
We look for a loyal customer base that is highly satisfied with and supportive of what you've built. Retention, repeat purchases and customer stories tell us more than top-line growth alone.
3. A passionate leadership team
We back forward-thinking leaders who stay focused on the bottom line. Show us how your team's experience maps to the problem you're solving, and where you'll need to hire next.
4. Disruptive innovation
We favor ventures with an innovative or disruptive impact on their industry. Tell us what changes if you win.
5. A STEM foundation
Our portfolio focuses on science, technology, engineering, math and medicine: from SaaS and AI to hardware, medical technologies, manufacturing and aerospace.
What happens after you reach out
- Initial meeting: we meet to determine fit.
- Analysis: we work with you on due diligence.
- Committee meeting: our team discusses the opportunity and crafts a deal.
- Term sheet: we present terms that align for all parties.
- Agreement: we reach a deal and resources are deployed.
